My kids wanted to have “cool” cakes this year so I took on the challenge of making them myself. Now I will be honest and say this is a HUGE Challenge for me because I have never done it before. My son wanted a Cars cake for his family party at home (each of them wanted a different cake for their party at home for family and one for their friends party). My son turned 4 on the 16th and this is the cake I made for him(Im really happy with how it turned out for being my first time making a cake like this).
I used box cake mix from my stockpile and I made the peanut butter buttercream icing myself(look for the recipe later in the week).I made a small cake that I could break apart to make the sand mounds and sprinkled crumbled up animal crackers on the top to make it look like sand. The road is made of black sprinkles and I put 2 of his Cars character cars on the top, his 2 favorite Tow Mator and Lightening McQueen:)
Getting cakes made can be very expensive especially with me needing 6 different cakes in the course of 3 weeks making them at home is a big money saver. Every other year they have gotten a homemade square cake with happy birthday written on it,(which thankfull I worked at a bakery in high school and I had to write on cakes all the time and I can easily do it) But now they are wanting creative cakes so I am learning as I go. But if I can make a cake that comes out like this one did then anyone can:)
Look for more posts on the other cakes I make the kids, I still have 2 more to do for family parties and 3 for the kids friend party:)
