As the mom of 3 kids their health and safety are huge concerns of mine. When my son was 2 he had MRSA. We took him to the hospital because his eye went from being normal to completely swollen shut with in a few hours. We were told that it was just an eye infection he was in the hospital for a few days on iv meds and then we were sent home. No one told us that what he had was MRSA and because it was no treated with the right medications a few weeks later we were back in the hospital. This time it was his left butt cheek that was infected and when the doctor who came in to talk to us said he looked at his medical file from when we had been there a few weeks prior said the paperwork said the rest came back positive for MRSA we were very upset and worried. We had never been informed and so when we went home we thought it was just an eye infection and we were in the clear which was not the case and why he ended up back in the hospital. They had to do emergency surgery to remove the infection from him and he was in the hospital for a few days and then we had a vigorous schedule of keeping it clean to make sure the infection was gone for good.
I am sharing this with you today because as parents we need to be aware of the potential illnesses that can affect our children, now I have not dealt with Meningitis but the thought of a child being sick from it or a family having to deal with it touches my heart. I have been that Mom sitting in the hospital with her child hooked up to IVs and not knowing what exactly was going on and while MRSA does not have a vaccination to help fight against it, Meningitis does. Right now with a quick little form you can help prevent infant meningitis by signing the petition to bring awareness to the CDC that they should recommend the vaccination.
For me our family was lucky that my son’s MRSA was caught and even with 2 hospital stays, he was able to be cured and he is now a handsome 5 year old boy, but many infants do not make it that get infant meningitis and that really hurts my heart and my heart goes out to all families who have any child that is sick or a child that was unable to beat an awful disease.
“I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central and Meningitis Angels. This campaign was made possible in part through support provided by Novartis Vaccines. A small donation to a charity of my choice was made in my name fromMom Central as a thank-you for participating. All opinions in this posting are 100% my own.”
