We have an issues in my house – I am blaming it on summer vacation being overwhelming for the kids this year and our “normal” routine (meaning school routine” being completely thrown out the window. We have had a busy summer none of our summers have ever been this busy. We started the craziness in June when I went on a press trip with Disney, then we were home just a few days before going to my parents house for a few days, then we headed to Virginia for my family reunion, then the kids and i went on a press trip to the poconos and then home for a few days when our friends were visiting on their way back home to spain and then the kids went back to my parents while Tom and I went to a conference in Chicago and then after coming home we have been nonstop cleaning and trying to organize the house. The issues is my kids have apparently forgotten what the work no means. Anytime I say no these past few weeks they have in turn done the complete opposite and so it seems as if every time I say “no” they think it means “yes”. The summer started out good with no really meaning no and now some how over the past few weeks the kids have some how gotten the 2 words confused.
From asking for ice pops right before dinner and when the answer is “no” as soon as I turn my back to make dinner all 3 of them magically have ice pops in hand, (which has now ended since someone left the freezer open and all the ice pops melted and had to be thrown out), to when I ask them to pick up their rooms they say no (when yes is the right answer), to brush your teeth and get ready for bed… the list goes on and on and while 90% of the time things are great that 10% where they have all forgotten what “no” means is pushing my mommy buttons!
Maybe its the complete whirlwind that this summer has been but whatever it is this mama thinks its time for a household class on what no really means 😉
Have you had any challenges this summer with your schedules being thrown off the norm?
