I was sent an e-mail this week from reader Sally who shared with me her story on how being patient saved her $355 on a patio set!
My husband and I try to do things as cheap as possible. I rarely pay retail for anything. My idea of retail therapy is at an outlet store! I tell my children that “patience is golden”. I point this out to them when I buy something that I have been wanting for a long time and I get it at an extreme discount. A good example of that is my patio furniture. I found it at K-Mart 4 years ago. It was under the Jaqueline Smith label, and cost $550! I took home a picture of it and put it on my refrigerator door for 2 years. I could always find areas to spend the 550 bucks that were more important than furniture. After 2 years I threw the picture away. Three weeks ago, my boys and I went to Wal-Mart. (I can’t stand Wal-Mart, especially on the weekend). We went into the garden center and there was my furniture! It was labeled with the Mainstays name, but it was the same. This time it was on clearance for 150 bucks! I did have to pay an extra $49 for the umbrella, but who cares, it is better then $550! So, for my $195 I received one over sized table with a lazy susan, five welded chairs with over overstuffed cushions, and an umbrella.
