We’re wrapping up our Eco in the Spring Event and only have a couple days left to bring you some truly amazing green products! I would like to share this one with you today!
I am a recent couponer convert. I haven’t been stockpiling all that long and I’m still learning what a good deal is on some things and how long I should wait for a deal before I just have to suck it up and buy it for more. The one thing I have had some real issues getting a good deal on is laundry detergent. I’m kinda picky when it comes to my detergent – I won’t use Sun or store brands. I have to worry about my children’s delicate skin and we have a lot of clothes that go a step beyond dirty (grass, red juice…diaper messes…you know the drill!). So when I got the chance to try out the Robby Wash Ball, I was excited and a bit skeptical. Here’s what the Robby Wash Ball looks like:
When you order the Ball, you get a small box with the ball (about the size of a baseball), refills which are the little bags of detergent balls that you pour into the Robby Wash Ball, and a stain stick. You can choose between the blue ball, which is meant for cold or hot washes, or the fuscia ball which is exclusively for cold washes. One ball is supposed to last ONE YEAR, is $32.95 with free shipping, and it is completely hypoallergenic, meaning I don’t have to buy anymore of that expensive Dreft for my baby’s wash loads! You don’t have to lug around a big heavy bottle of laundry soap with you if you have to go to a laundromat or laundry room (great for dorm room living!)…one Robby wash ball is equivalent to 75+ pounds of laundry soap that you are no longer dumping down your drain. And you don’t get the gross buildup in your laundry soap drawer from the soap…all you have to do is toss the ball in your front or top-loading washing machine – and its high efficiency as well so your machine is safe. Sounds like there should be a catch right? I tried it out, fully expecting this to be a complete gimmick because it didn’t look like it should work. So I threw in a normal load and it came out…clean. But its hard to tell what’s clean and what not. I mean, it smelled fresh and all, but was it really clean? So…I threw in a ‘real’ load of wash… There was a onsie that my son had ‘leaked’ thru and a pair of my sons jeans with some grass stains and, most importantly, a pair of my white pants that my kids had gotten some kind of red juice/candy/something all down the one leg. I threw the stain stick on my pants for good measure and threw it all in with a couple other pieces of laundry. It all came out clean! Even my white pants! The only thing I have to say that’s even remotely negative is that you have to use some kind of laundry softener. This is usually the case with most detergents, and you likely already use either liquid softener or dryer sheets already so this isn’t such a big deal. But I found that the laundry comes out almost a ‘crispy’ clean if you don’t use either, so its best if you stick to using softener. Also, they say that you should use two balls for large loads, but I have had no problems using one and my washing machine is very large.
I’ve been using the Robby Wash Ball for about a month and its still working perfect and I haven’t had to refill it just yet. I have three more refill packets and each is supposed to last 3 months. Obviously I can’t tell you right now if it will last the whole year, but in my opinion it doesn’t even matter! Even if it only lasts for 8-9 months, its still cheaper and easier than using regular laundry soap. I absolutley love the Robby Wash Ball and I would recommend it to anybody – especially housholds with children!
