Oh vey! Who would have thought hunting down a preschool for Alyssa to attend next year would be such a challenge. For me this is all new, the older 2 went to preschool on the military base because we were active duty for part of it and then when we were in Pa for a year Logan went to the one at the church my parents go to and then the last year for Logan we lived just a few minutes from base and being on the medical retirement we were able to take him there. Now we are way to far for me to take Alyssa there and the hunt is on for a preschool. I totally feel like the bad mom because I did not know a few things about how preschool is done here – 1 the registration process and people do it up to 2 years in advance to get their kids in to the good ones, 2- most are already filled up for the fall (I have called 3 that are close to me and they are filled up) and 3- the cost… on base we paid $60 a month for 3 1/2 days a week …. here it is ranging from $200 a month – $700 a month… talk about a hit on the pocketbook!
Thankfully a few people I know gave me a heads up about some more local preschools and I have a fairly lengthy list of places to call and get information for. But then comes the visiting them – I knew what the preschools were that my other 2 attended. The one on base both the kids had gone to and I knew people who worked there and the one at the church I knew the teachers since I had gone to church there as a kid. Now I am in a bit of a freak out mode trying to find a good preschool, that is going to be a place I am comfortable with my child going to but with out really knowing anyone or anything about the schools here…. I think I may be a bit on edge during this process.
What are preschools like where you live? How did you go about finding the preschool your child attends?
