Baked Macaroni and cheese
If you are looking for an amazing recipe that is super easy to make this baked macaroni will hit the spot, It is a fantastic (and cheap) meal that’s easy to adjust to your tastes so here goes!
Baked Macaroni and cheese Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 4 Tbsp flour
- 2 cups milk (set out to warm up)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 box elbow macaroni
- 1 lb. of cheese (my favorite is Cracker Barrel extra sharp cheddar cheese, but you can use whatever block of cheese you have in your fridge!) – broken into small pieces.
- 6 slices sliced American Cheese
- Italian Seasoned Breadcrumb
- A couple slices of butter
Baked Macaroni and cheese Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees – start the elbow macaroni boiling. melt butter in a saucepan over med heat. Add flour and wisk until combined Add milk a little at a time, wisking each time until smooth until all the milk is added Heat to boiling, adding a shake or two of salt and pepper, then turn down the heat and let cool slightly. By now your macaroni should be cooked. Drain and return to pot over low heat and add the white sauce. Add your pieces of cheese and stir until mostly melted. Transfer cheesy macaroni to a 9×13 pan. Cover top with slices of cheese. Put slices of butter anywhere the cheese doesn’t cover (to help the crust cook evenly) Sprinkle lightly (or heavily if your like my family and love a serious crust on your macaroni!) with Italian Seasoned Breadcrumbs. Place in preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the crust is lightly browned.
As a note – you can never have to much of this stuff. Like most pasta dishes, this tastes even better heated up the next day. If you have some leftovers to heat up, put some on a plate and cover in a damp paper towel. This will stop the macaroni from getting dry. Then microwave until hot! It’ll taste amazing! I know a lot of people like to add chicken to this to make is a ‘full meal’. This is fine, but let me suggest, if your family just must have some meat with their meal, serving this on the side of some grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. This is easy to prepare in advance, and its a great dish to bring to parties!
