There is a lot of information on using coupons to save money. You can save well over $100 a year using coupon. You can see the rest of the coupon 101 posts here. Each post covers a different area of couponing and saving money. You can always print coupons from Coupons.com, Red Plum and The Coupon Network. There are downloadable coupons(that are loaded on to your store loyalty cards) that you can load from Cellfire and Saving Star
Rebates are one of my favorite things to use to save money(other then coupons) and when it is possible to combine a rebate and a coupon it is even better!
What is a Rebate?
A rebate is a form (online or by mail) that you fill out and send in to get the money you spent back when you buy a product.
Why Use Rebates?
Rebates are a great way to save money, yes you are putting the money out up front but you will recieve the money back. The best thing about rebates is that you can use a coupon with them or buy items with RR or ECBs and you will get back the cash value of the product even though you used ECB’s or RR to buy it, turning it into a Money Maker. There are also times that when you mail in a rebate form and you have used a coupon on the product you get the full value amount back.
Lipstick Brand X is on sale at CVS for 9.99 with 9.99 ECB back and there is a $1 off coupon there is also a mail in rebate.
You go to CVS and buy Lipstick X on sale for $9.99 and you have a $1 off coupon. While in the store there is also a mail in rebate form that is on the package. When you go to the check out you use your $1 off 1 coupon on x lipstick and pay 8.99 with Extra Care Bucks. You receive back $9.99 in extra care bucks. You then will mail in your receipt for the $9.99 and when you get the check in the mail you have now made 9.99!
You could also throw in using Saving Star which would add even more savings, by loading the coupons on to your store card would add even more to your savings or if it is a money maker, make it an even bigger money maker.
Now that example does not happen very often, i have only had a deal like that a few times over the past 5 years but they are there. I used the example just to show what a rebate can do when you combine it with all available saving options.
Types of Rebates
Try me FREE- a rebate that gives you the full value of the product back when you mail in the rebate
$ off Rebate- Gives you the listed dollar amount back when you mail in your rebate.
Ways to mail in your rebates
It used to be that you had to mail everything in, how ever now some companies like Rite Aid and Staples are making it easier by having online programs that you can submit the information online, instead of having to mail it in.
Where to find rebates
- Store displays
- company websites
- coupon inserts in the news paper
- wine tags
