I am quiet handy in my household and I’m always trying to think up new ways to fix things, decorate, or clean while saving money. One major money saver is carpet cleaning. I got this tip several years back and have done it ever since and it works wonders. I used to use Resolve, but mostly that just buries the stain under the carpet – plus, it’s expensive! But you can instead buy a $1 can of shaving cream. Our biggest stain in this house is red juice. I couldn’t find anything that would get it out – even the professional carpet cleaners that came out said they had nothing on red juice. But if you catch it soon enough with some shaving cream, you won’t even know it was there. Here’s how you do it. Pour a bit of hot water on the stain and pump some shaving cream on it. It has to be the foam (the cheap kind) not the gel! Then just take a spounge or a scrub brush and scrub the shaving cream into the stain in a circular motion, letting it mix with the water. Then take a towel and blot up the water – the stain will soak into the towel. Make sure you throw the towel right into the wash tho, or your towel will be stained! But you’ll actually be able to see the stain coming off your carpet, not soaking in deeper. I haven’t found a stain that shaving cream wouldn’t take care of. We keep a can under our sink with all our other cleaning supplies! If you have any awesome cleaning tips, share them here! We’d love to hear them!
