It is time to decorate for Halloween and we are getting the house a little bit creepy, with bugs. What I should also tell you is that I don’t like bugs at all, the creep me out and if I see one in the house I will go on a hunt for Tom to have him get rid of it so to do a project with the kids that involved decorating the house with bugs was quite a challenge. I asked the kids what they wanted to do with bugs and decorating and they said color pictures of lots of bugs and then hang them as decorations around the house and so we did. I went looking on line for coloring pages of bugs and we got to work.
This craft is easy for kids of all ages, Alyssa is 3 and she had just as much fun as Logan who is 6 and McKenzie who is 8 years old doing this. We needed something that all the kids would enjoy and that would work well with decorating for Halloween and this was perfect.
What you need:
Creepy Bug Coloring sheets (Just google it and you will find lots online)
What to do:
Pick out the bugs you want to color – Use the The Orkin Ecologist to find names of bugs and what they look like to make sure you are finding creepy ones to google for. While coloring the different bugs read up about them on the Orkin site as well.
Have the kids color them
Have the kids cut them out
Tape them around the house on the wall – get creative like having them be in a semi hidden spot so people don’t see them right away and when they do it freaks them out 🙂
The Orkin website is a great way to find creepy bugs, but also to learn about the bugs you are coloring and using as decorations. The site is filled with great information that makes it a fun learning expierence for the kids.
