Disney’s Maleficent Movie Review
Disney does it again!! My girls and I attended the IMAX 3D screening for the live action Disney Movie “Maleficent” last night and we were blown away. When I first saw the trailer for the movie, I pictured Disney telling the story of Sleeping Beauty from Maleficent’s point of view, I was only partially right. Disney put a spectacular spin on an old tale. The movie was filled with fantastic visual effects, story twists that you never see coming but all done with a loving familiarity of the tale of Aurora’s “cursed” birth. Angelina Jolie was a pleasant surprise in the adult role of Maleficent and Elle Fanning made a wonderful teenaged Aurora.
The movie has hit all angles of the story and provides a unique insight to each of the lead characters lives. You watch Maleficent grow from a young and wondered fairy to the evil fairy queen we all love to hate. We learn how King Stefan becomes king, fulfilling his childhood dream of residing in the castle as King and the compromises he makes to reach his goal. We meet the fairies that are destined to “raise” Aurora. We watch Aurora’s christening, receiving her fated curse, her growth in the forest, her “chance” meeting with Prince Phillip, and receiving True Love’s first kiss. All wrapped up in Disney’s signature happy ending.
The story of Maleficent provides twists and turns, beautiful imagery, and the question of “ Who are the real villains and heroes of this story?” Your kids will love the fantasy creatures, beautiful costumes, and action packed scenes. You will also enjoy the hidden moral of the story that strays in the sweet direction of never assume you know someone’s story at first sight. I love the way Disney has gone from a traditional happy ending to the surprising gift of the new definition of true love.
Disney has astounded me and my family again with how wonderfully they have re-told the story of “Sleeping Beauty”. Order your tickets today you will not be disappointed!! I wish I could tell you more because I am truly in awe of this movie, but I would spoil all the fun you would be experiencing. I am already planning a date with my mom who loves the villains of the Disney world and looking forward to my next experience of this astonishingly produced movie.
