If you lack a decorating eye you probably look at all the pictures your friends who have that amazing eye post on their facebook pages of their beautifully decorated house thinking to yourself, “gosh I wish I could do that”. I know I do and then I drive myself crazy, however over the years I have accepted that I am not a master decorator, I will never be one and that easy decorating is what works for me. There are ways to easily decorate for Christmas and have it look just as awesome as those with the crazy decorating eye. I hope these Easy Christmas Decorating Ideas help you with your Christmas decorating. I have also realized that once I put up my easy decorations, my house is festive and looks put together like someone with skill and I have none. It works well. It is also budget friendly since you can buy random things in the after Christmas sales and not worry about how it is going to look, or if it will match your house.
10 Easy Christmas Decorating Ideas
Themed Christmas trees – Pick a theme, any theme you want and decorate a small fake tree to match. We have a Disney Princess tree and a Disney Character tree each year. So easy to do too. I put up the tree, have the kids put on the ornaments and tada!
Decorate a table. It can be a coffee table, an end table, a sofa table, it does not matter what type of table you use. Just use one that you have in the house already. Get a table runner and a bunch of Christmas themed nick knacks and put them on it. They do not have to be in any particular order, just arrange it so it looks nice.
Wooden Holiday signs. You can find these at many stores, they have cute little sayings like “be merry”, or “Joy to the World” ect on them. Place them on random shelves of book cases, the entertainment center ect and they don’t take long to put out at all!
Wallart. Take down some of the other art work in your house and put up Christmas themed ones. You can find them quite cheap after the holidays. I put one above my Christmas table and it pulls it all together nicely.
Ornaments on Doorknobs. Get a few ornaments that you like, use ribbon or string and then hang them on the doorknobs in the house. Super easy and you can let the kids pick out which ones they want for their room!
Kids toy table and reading area– All those christmas themed toys, like stuffed Santa and reindeer and the trains can leave you wondering what to do with them. Get a table and set them up on it, put a tin or a box that is holiday themed filled with books next to it and tada! A decoration AND a place for the kids to read and play all at the same time. Plus this one is great for when you have little kids who want to touch all the decorations around the house 🙂 I have a fake fireplace I made out of cardboard boxes, that I can also put up and put stuffed animals on the top of, and the kids love it and every year it is quick and easy to put up and it really makes the area look festive!
Christmas lights around the door frames. When I was a kid my dad would hang lights in my room on the top of the ceiling for me, having it that bright keeps my kids awake so now I put lights around the door frame of their room in the hallway and it serves as a nightlight and decorations. Plus you can stick them on any door frame you want to and they do not take long to put up!
Soap dispensers. So I am quite lazy when it comes to these, I fill them when needed and put them out when it is time to and then they go back under the bathroom counter when the holiday is over. I do this for all holidays and it is a quick switch to change to the current holiday themed soap dispenser.
Garland. Get the fake stuff, it will last a long time and it is easy to set up. I string it on the stair well banister, put some on book shelves, drape it on the top of the entertainment center. Quick and easy Christmas decoration, that looks nice with out having to do much to it
Decorative Pillows. Literally just toss them on the couch! So easy, no work involved and there are so many different options of styles, colors and themes that you can’t not find ones that you like.
