Tonight on TLC at 8pm a new show called Extreme Couponing will be airing. Now after reading about it and watching a clip I am on the fence about how I feel about it. Right now it is upsetting to me that they are making couponers look like hoarders, yes the one lady had 3,000 rolls of toilet paper, in our house we use about 4-5 rolls a week (with my 3 year old constantly having to go) so her 3,000 rolls would last us about 11 years. Personally I would love to have an 11 year supply of toilet paper that was free. I am sure my 3 year supply of diapers that I had when my daughter was born would be looked at as hoarding in the eyes of TLC, but they were so cheap and saved us so much money there was no saying no to 3 bucks for 100 diapers that we were going to need.
I like the idea of helping people save money and I would think that would be the point of this show, but I am not sure how this show is supposed to help people learn to use coupons. It seems to make a joke out of couponing and could possibly put a distaste in the mouths of stores for couponers, which is something that is not needed since there are times that using coupons is a hassle already due to untrained cashiers.
My goal is to share deals with all of you so you can get them and save money too. No I do not post every deal that comes along because couponing and deal hunting is a way to live your life and save money but it should not consume a persons life. TLC makes these people out to seem like they do nothing but shop for deals all day everyday and I can’t see anyone doing that on top of having a family and a life. I will post tonight after watching it how I feel exactly because from those clips they are showing the non average couponer/stockpiler, and I love that more people could be exposed to coupon using, but I am not sure I like the idea of couponers being exploited as OCD and hoarders.
