When I went back to school a few years ago to get my associates degree financial costs were a big worry to me. Hubby was a low ranking Airmen in the Air Force and I had quit my job at the local Wendy’s to go back to school so money was SUPER tight and so I had to start looking at where I would be able to get the money I needed to go back to school.
I found the Pell Grant, it is a grant and it is from the government and you do not ever have to pay it back. It can be used for just about everything you need for college, your tuition, books, childcare a laptop ect.
When applying for the Pell Grant the amount of money that you receive differs for every person and there are different things that factor in to how much you will recieve.
- Financial Year
- Are you going full time or part time
- The cost of attending that school
- How long you plan on attending that school.
I went to the local community college and it was fairly simple to do. I applied online for the grant and the college that I was going to go to. Once I received my financial aid letter I took it to the school. There were times that I had to put the money out first for things like my books and a few classes but then I was mailed a check to pay me back for the money of mine that I used first. You can choose to have the school be paid directly or the check come to you and you pay the school or a combination of both.
To apply for the Pell Grant you need to use the FASFA form it does take a bit of time for the answers as to how much you will get to come back to you so it is best to start the process early and before a semester will start.
