This past week my oldest daughter and I headed to the movies to get a sneak peek at Oz The Great and Powerful and we both enjoyed the movie and the time we spent together. I had considered brining my 6 year old son as well but from the previews thought some of it might be a little to much for him, but after seeing it I will be taking him on a special mommy and son date so he can see it. I think he will enjoy it and that even though at times the bright colors and shocking movements are a bit much at times he will be fine handling it. I will not bring my 3 year old to see it so I have to say this movie is good for ages 6 and up depending on the maturity of your child.
The movies is the back story to The Wizard of Oz, we don’t travel along with Dorothy in this movie, but learn how “Oz” became the Wizard of Oz. As a man who travels with a traveling circus being a magician his life is not what he wants it to be. When a tornado sweeps him away in the hot air balloon he lands in the land of Oz. Upon arriving he is met by “the good witch” who tells him they have been waiting for “their wizard” to help save them from the bad witch. Upon his travels he learns who really wants to save Oz and who is the good and bad witch. He uses the skills he learned as a magician to pull of a grand magic trick and setting the people of Oz free from their fear of the wicked witches.
Overall I really enjoyed the movie, even though there were times that the colors were a bit bright with the 3D and the multiple times that Oz fell for a lady could have been excluded from the movie I really enjoyed it. My 8 year old said her favorite part was when all the people worked together and beat the witches 🙂
