Well today was very interesting in terms of finding out the coupon policies of the local stores, each store had their own even in the same company and I was told some very interesting couponing concepts and rules for couponing. I called 6 different Weis Market stores, 3 shoprites and 1 Giant. All of the weis stores gave me a different story as to what was allowed and so did the shoprites and giant well that was an experience that ended with me calling corporate and the guy I talked to telling me someone had to call me back because he did not have access to the coupon policy. The ones that I found the funniest were:
My Finds at Giant:
When using coupons you have to buy 1 more then the amount of coupons you have of items because you can not get a discount on every item you buy,I used an insane amount when asking about use of coupons and I asked if I bought 150 shampoos could I use 150 1.00 off 1 coupons and the price of the shampoo was 2.00 on sale. I was told I could only use 149 coupons because it is policy that a customer has to pay full price for 1 item.
The store started out saying they (and they advertise it on their ad) that they double up to .50 so a .50 would be a dollar, when I asked about how many would double I was told that no matter how many different coupons I had for different products only 1 would double its value and all others would be scanned at face value, and I was informed that they manually stop the doubling because they are only allowed to double 1 coupon per person
And I was told if the coupon says off of 2 i have to buy 2 or it wont double(that is like saying if you buy 1 with an x/2 then its ok…oy!) I did ask Why I could use it on one and was told that it only double when you buy 2 so its ok to just use it on one….
****and then stores wonder why they have issues with people using coupons incorrectly…
This amount of uneducated cashiers and customer service people really bugs me, these are things they should know the answers to… and understand how a coupon works. I am waiting for corporate office to call me back.
Weis: I called 6 in the area and all gave me different answers
That if I have a 1.00 off coupon and I want to use it for a 1.00 priced item I can but it will be adjusted to .99 because I can not get things for free. I then asked what if I have a 2.00 coupon for a 2.00 item how does that work? I was told I have to pay .60 cents(I am not sure where that logic comes from?) but if it was a 3.00 item and I used a 2.00 coupon I would only pay 1.00.
I was told if I used 4 of the same that doubled I was ok but I could not use 4 other coupons for the same product and buy 8 items because i was using 4 coupons that doubled.
One store told me I can buy as many items as I want and use 1 coupon per item as long as the item is not on sale and then I am limited to 1 item and use 1 coupon but if I want to buy items I can if I am not using coupons. I asked how that was even fair to a person using coupons and was told that the store does not get reimbursed for coupon use it is a privilege for customers to be able to use them in stores.
***Apparently she has not read a coupon because ALL coupons clearly state that the MANUFACTURER reimburses the store. ***
I was told I can use 4 like coupons and 3 will double the rest will be at face value(this part was fine until the next sentence out of her mouth) but if any of the coupons double and make the item free you can not use them because the point of a coupon is to save money not to get items for free…
***Isn’t getting an item Free after coupon how you save money?***
There were more insane comments about coupon use but these were the ones that really just hit me like huh???? I did call the corporate office for Weis and Giant I will be calling ShopRite tomorrow. The lady I spoke to at Weis was very nice and told me she would pass on the information about coupon knowledge being misconstrued and if I had any problems shopping at any of the stores just to call or ask the manager to see their coupon policy.
