Ok so I am totally not a crunchy person, when I have a sore throat I go to my cough drop stockpile and my cough syrup and normally that kicks it. However this last go around of being sick for 2 weeks I was at my wits end, I had gone to the doctors 2 times, one time they gave me a steroid the second time they gave me an antibiotic and I was taking them and still felt like crap. I was coughing like crazy and could not get the cough to go away. Then my friend suggested I tried Thieves Tea (you know that essential oils thieves oil, yea that stuff).
Of course my first thought was is this even going to work, making green tea, pouring a bunch of drops of oils into it and it is supposed to make my cough go away. Well I mixed the concoction (ill post the recipe below), smelled it (it did not smell to bad at all) and then I took a sip! BLAH! YUCK! I wanted to spit it out but I had enough coughing that I figured I would keep drinking it and see how it went, it couldn’t hurt me so why not.
Surprise Surprise to me, about 15 minutes later my cough stopped and I actually felt better. I was hoping to just get rid of my cough but the head congestion I was having was much better as well. Let me just say I was completely shocked that it actually made me feel better. My cough also did not come back for about 7 hours, which for me anytime I had a cough drop I coughed the whole time, then I coughed the right after it and that vicious cycle continued 🙁 With the tea I got 7 hours or relief before I had to have some more 🙂
It made me feel better so much in fact that I ordered the Theives kit from Young Living this month, who knew that they had things like toothpaste, and face wash and other things besides just oils… Not me but I will be updating you on what I think about them after I use them 🙂
If you are looking at starting the Essential Oils thing you can get a starter kit here (which is what I did because it ends up being a great deal and having all the oils that you need to get stared and I bought the diffuser too that I am using just about every night with a few drops of lavender and I seem to be sleeping better but only time will tell on that one when I get back to a normal sleep schedule 😉 but don’t worry I will let you know how that goes too 🙂 )
You can order the Theives oil and the rest of the oils to make this nasty drink that helped me get rid of my cough and greatly helped my sore throat here but please believe me when I say it tastes gross 😉
If you are wanting the best way to test out the Essential Oils, I say go for the starter pack, and join as a wholesaler so you get the 24% discount, plus you get the diffuser and all the oils that you would want to test out with the kit. That is the one I ordered when taking this plunge into what they call the “oily world”
And remember I am just now getting into this oily thing and I am going to be sharing with you my thoughts, and feelings on the whole thing one step at a time so if you are a skeptic make sure you keep an eye out for my other posts as I am going to share the good, the bad and the ugly of my trying this oily world out 🙂
Theives Tea Recipe to get rid of your cough
- 1 cup of green tea ( I used a kcup and the keurig to brew it)
- honey (put a lot in it helps with the taste, it will still taste gross but it will be sweet and after the first time I did it I now use about 3 tablespoons of honey)
- 2 drops Theives oil
- 2 drops lemon oil
- 2 drops peppermint oil
Just pour your tea into your cup, then add your oil drops then add the honey and stir well, take a deep breath and drink it! Thats it 🙂
