Passing furniture down from when you were a kid to your children is a common thing in my family. The dressers, desk and bed in McKenzies room were all mine growing up and so was the mattress she has been sleeping on for the last 6 years (goes to show that quality is important and the extra money is well spent since that mattress is over 20 years old). When I was e-mailed by Naturepedic to try out the organic cotton mattresses I knew exactly who it would go to and I was excited.
We were sent the quilted deluxe twin mattress, upon arrival the mattress was in a box and you could feel the stability of the mattress from the box. There was no bending of the box when we moved it, and when removing the mattress from the box it did not bend in all sorts of funky ways. If you have ever moved an older mattress you know when moving them they wiggle quite a bit.
Once we got the mattress on McKenzie’s bed and got all the sheets on it we put it to the test of laying on it. It was super comfortable! (Makes me wanna sleep there instead of on my bed at times 😉 ). The real test came when McKenzie went to bed that night, since she had been complaining that her bed was uncomfortable and that she was not sleeping well so I was excited to know how she felt the next morning. The next morning I was shocked when I woke up at 8 am and McKenzie was NOT in our bed! I should probably mention that MANY nights McKenzie some how made herself into our room and into our bed and so when she was not in our bed the next morning I was thrilled. Not only did I then have room to move but it meant that she was comfortable on her new mattress to sleep in their the whole night and not wake up because she was uncomfortable!! That was a BIG win for us when reviewing this mattress!
Of course with any big purchase like a mattress you want to make sure you are getting a quality product and a company that has a warranty on their products is a great way to make sure you are getting a quality product. The Naturepedica mattresses come with a 20 year warranty!! Yes you read that right! The warranty on McKenzie’s mattress will end when she is 28 years old, so that means it will last us through her childhood and possibly into her first place of her own!
With the Deluxe mattresses if you would like to make them waterproof or dustmite proof you can with add ons like the protective cover, which is great for younger kids, especially for when they are in the age groups of potty training and having accidents at night. Having protection from dustmites is also a great idea because it will make your mattress last longer.
