The God of War Series on PlayStation 2 and 3 has been one of my all-time favorites. It has all the elements to be a great series. Engaging story, great characters, and awesome graphics and sound. So when I got the opportunity to review God of War Saga I jumped on it. Not only do you get God of War 1, 2, and 3, but it also includes the two God of War games that were on the PSP (which is the first Sony Handheld device). To get them all you have to have is an Internet connection and a PlayStation Network account (which is free to sign up). There is a voucher inside the game case and you will use that code to redeem and download the 2 games. So without further delay let’s get into the review.
Story 10/10– The God of War series follows a Spartan named Kratos who is tormented by his past. God of War I starts out where the Gods of Mount Olympus come to ask Kratos for help. Zeus is one of those gods and will play a prominent role throughout the series. Anyway, the help the Gods seek is they need someone to stop Aries the God of War. He is going on a rampage and will not listen to reason. In return Zeus offers to make Kratos the new God of War and also remove all the horrible memories of Kratos’ past. Of course this is just the beginning of the story for just the first game. Seeing as I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone that has yet to play the series I will not go into detail of the other two games. The great part is each game gets more and more amazing and the story is easy to follow. You will want to play all three games as soon as you can just to see what happens next. In one word…Amazing!
Gameplay 10/10– The gameplay is simply fantastic. The buttons on the controller correspond to actions like attack and block perfectly. The Game Manual is in the game and not you’re typical in the case paper copy. This is one way the video game companies are starting to help the environment. So all the instructions for what button does what is in there. The enemies are another great addition. To your run of the mill dead soldiers to Medusa there are monsters a plenty here. Some require more skills then others. The bosses are simply breathtaking and get better as the series goes on. A lot of the bosses require you to finish them off with QTE’s which are Quick Time Events. What happens with these is that a button appears on the screen and you need to hit that button quickly. That is followed by another button and another and so forth. These are some of the most amazing moments so be sure to pay attention. From swinging your weapons around to destroying the bad guys the gameplay in this game is one of the best all time.
Graphics & Sound 9/10– The only reason this quite doesn’t get a 10 is because the first two games were originally on PlayStation 2 so even though they have been remastered the graphics are not quite as good as part III but they are still amazing none the less. You will feel as you are there right along with Kratos. The graphics look like you are watching a movie. The music makes you feel like you are in Greece in the times of the gods. The voice acting is on par with big screen movies. If you have a 3D capable TV you can enjoy God of War III and the two God of War downloadable games in 3D. When you put these games in to your PlayStation and get ready to play them prepare to be amazed.
This game is rated M for Mature so it is not for kids under 17. If you have someone over this age though this is the perfect holiday gift for that video gamer in your life. I fully recommend you buy this game. The God of War series is one of the best in history. So be part of history and grab yourself the God of War Saga today!!!!!!!
