My son and I both love Thomas & Friends. So we decided to both sit down and watch Thomas & Friends in the DVD titled: Up, Up & Away! It starts as always with that catchy Thomas & Friends theme. I love it and it gets stuck in my head. One of the nice things about this DVD is that it also has a live actor named Driver Perkins that guides you into the episodes. He is also preparing for a vegetable show by growing carrots in a barrel. He also inserts some humor here and there. After each episode Driver Perkins returns so we can find out how much his carrots have progressed for the vegetable show. What I really like about these segments is he also shows your kids how to plant seeds among other things. Very interesting and educational.
The first episode on the DVD is of course Up, Up & Away. The tank engines need to deliver a big balloon to the big balloon show. As they are in the middle of chugging along the track to deliver the balloon it comes lose and is carried off into the sky by the wind. They head back to grab another big balloon and more challenges follow.
The second episode is titled Wonky Whistle. Thomas’s whistle has broken and he needs a new one. He is then given a special assignment where he needs to whistle to alert everyone for the country show. The whistle causes all sorts of problems along the way and Thomas learns a valuable lesson at the end.
The third episode is titled Kevin the Steamie. Kevin is put in charge of the Steam Works while his boss is away. While in charge he sees Thomas and Percy playing a new game. He wants to play, and ends up wrecking the game. Thomas and Percy but tell Kevin they will be back later to play the game. Kevin wants to play better so he decides to practice. At the same time he neglects his duties as head of Steam Works. Kevin must learn to be responsible and get his job done before having playtime.
The fourth episode is titled Emily and Dash. Emily loves to be the best at everything. Emily must take Dash to the Children’s Steam Fair where Dash will be the star of the Fair. Emily wants to learn how to twitter and tweet with her whistle which she saw Dash and the other logging engines doing. They tell her it is very hard and takes practice over time. Emily says she will learn on the way to the fair but on the way can’t seem to do it. Dash tells her that twitting and tweeting takes a lot of energy. When other engines comment on how much the Children will love the twitters and tweets Dash does, Emily becomes jealous. Because of this Emily gets into a bit of trouble. A lesson is learned by Emily.
There are bonus features which include several activities and games involving Thomas & Friends. My son and I loved this DVD. You will want to go Up, Up & Away with Thomas and his Friends. But be careful…..you may never want to come down.
