In a blogging group I am in one of the other bloggers posted about how her daughter received an in school suspension for saying “Bless you” to another student when they sneezed.
Here is the post her daughter posted about the incident (names blocked out for privacy)
I read this an seriously was in shock, ok yes I understand people don’t like religion in schools and religion pushed on them if they do not believe the same thing but while “Bless you” came from “God Bless You” it is now a form of being polite with no religious means attached to it. I have friends of MANY different beliefs and even my friend who is an atheist says “bless you when someone sneezes.
Like seriously in all honesty I find it rude when someone doesn’t say it, and I see the words “bless you” as a form of being polite. My kids were taught to say bless you or Gesundheit (the german version) whenever they hear a person sneeze, know them or not, in a public place or in a home. It is polite. Heck if you look on Wikipedia they even have a whole page of responses for when someone sneezes!!
Giving a kid an inschool suspension for being POLITE, seriously are the schools really going to punish a kid for being polite, do they want kids to be rude and judgmental and bullies?
What are your feelings on this?
