My goal on Thursdays is to help you with more ways to be thrifty and save money. Now I wont guarantee that every thursday I will be able to do a post but that is my goal and I will try my hardest!
Since spring is here and summer is approaching fast yard sales are going to be popping up everywhere on the weekends. As a kid my mom used to take my 2 sisters and I to yardsales. We would go threw the garage sales in the news paper and circle the ones that were close to us and on Saturdays we would head out in the morning. When my husband and I found out we were pregnant with our oldest daughter we did the same thing. My daughter’s whole wardrobe for the first year of her life was mostly bought the summer we were expecting from yardsales and we got a ton of great stuff for really cheap. The amount of great baby clothing that people sell at yardsales is great. I have found some really great finds at yardsales. I personally love Little Tikes and when I found out I was having a girl with my oldest I was set on her having the Victorian toy box(didnt care if it was pink or blue) I was so excited that I found one in awesome condition(didnt even look used at all) for 5.00 at a yard sale. My daughter still has that toybox and to this day(almost 6 years later) It is still one of my favorite Yardsale finds.
This year I am going to be starting my yardsale shopping heavily again. I do love shopping in general but boy do I miss finding those awesome yardsale finds. Every Saturday Morning I plan on getting the kids up early and heading out to whatever yardsales are in the area. With the exception of last year I used to do this and now I am really beginning to miss it and I am really excited to start again! Its such a nice way to spend some quality time with the kids, get some fresh air and find some great deals. My kids will each be given a couple bucks to spend on stuff that “they must have”. And my normal is 20.00 for each week to spend although sometimes I do spend more if I find a great deal.
The best times that I have found to go are either early in the morning when it starts to get first chance at things or late in the afternoon when they are getting ready to end the sale when they are wanting to just get rid of what they have left. Remember that most times at a yard sale you can offer them a lower amount(that is fair of course) then what they are asking or if you are buying things like kids clothes and they are wanting .50 an item you can make an offer on a huge lot of clothing and many times they will accept it because they are then getting rid of a lot in one lump sum.
Yard sales are also a great way to stock up on baby item and kids stuff, clothing can be found at really cheap prices and especially baby clothes are in very good condition because babies really do not wear things out and get them dirty and stained. I always look for clothing in sizes and seasons bigger then what my kids are wearing currently to stock up their wardrobes and save myself time in the future of having to buy clothing at full price and taking that dreaded trip to the store because my child has out grown their pants and has none that fit them and save myself the stress of that shopping trip because we HAVE to leave with pants because they need them.
There are many ways to find where yardsales are by you and the times that they are having them,
Where to find Yardsales by you
Look in the news papers classified section
Craigslist- Many people are now posting their yardsales here since it is free to advertise their sale unlike the news paper where you do have to pay for it to be in the classifieds.
Yardsales.com -You need to join but its free to join. You can search your local area to see when and where yardsales are and what they will be selling at their yardsale.
Signs- Many times I have come across a yard sale that had no advertisement at all other then signs along the road while looking for a sale i had planned on going to.
