While sitting around lunging this afternoon, while it was snowing again we all were watching a cooking show (I don’t know the name of it, just know it was on the Food Network) and it sparked an interesting conversation among the kids. All three of them told me that they want to learn how to cook. They want to be able to make a tasty meal and know what to do when cooking.
When I was a kid my dad did the cooking and when I got married I had not asked my dad about cooking (which I wish I had) and due to finances and my lack of cookings skills many times we ate hamburger helper or something like it as the main dish and then I just heated up some frozen veggies and dinner was done. Tom is not a cook, there are a few things he can make and a few creations that he has come up with that taste good but for the most part meals and meal planning was on me. As time progressed and a few great friends gave me lots of tips and recipes that were regulars in their house our menu expanded. I am now in a place where I feel comfortable cooking just about anything as long as their is a recipe for me to follow and I can put ingredients together and have it taste good.
Now that the kids have expressed an interest in joining me in the kitchen I am excited, I hope that this means when they get older and no longer are living at home (which is MANY years aways as far as I am concerned 😉 ) that they will be able to skip making boxed meals and have home cooked meals that they enjoy! I am very happy that this didn’t come up sooner because I am not sure I would have been any help to them but I am looking forward to them joining me and helping out in prepping and cooking meals!
So with that be on the look out as I will be bringing the kids in the kitchen with me and having them help out with the cooking and share with you things that work for us as far as the kids helping me in the kitchen.
