I am sure we have all been there at some point with a child who has taken 2 (or 3,4 or even 5) hours to fall asleep because they come up with every excuse in the book of why they can not go to bed. From an ear ache that only happens at night, to the invisible bug on the wall, to the cars driving down the street, that cat looking at them while they are trying to sleep, to the million times to the bathroom, they think their foot is going to fall off and I could go on and on and on…
Well here are some tips for dealing with a child who won’t go to sleep:
1- read a book in the bathroom
2- watch a show
3- take a shower
4- hide in the laundry room doing laundry
6- clean the farthest room away from them
7- get a glass of wine
8- get another glass of wine
9 – hand over the duty of bed time to your spouse
10 (last but not least) get a glass of wine and sit on the porch
While they might not help get your child to sleep this should help your sanity just a bit to get 5 minutes to calm your thoughts before going back to fighting the bedtime battle.
Also it helps to remember that one thing your mom used to say when you did the same thing “When you have kids they are going to be just like you” 😉
