As you all know I went on a trip to Florida to the Hilton Sandestin Resort last week with my oldest daughter. In the first 24 hours I spent with my daughter I learned so much about her just from talking with her, spending time with her and listening to what she has to say.
This is a picture of us as we were waiting for our plane to head to florida, nice and early in the morning (Can you tell neither one of us are morning people lol)
I had planned on this trip being a ton of fun for the both of us, but it turned into so much more than that for the both of us.
The willingness my daughter has shown today when learning about how the world works brought a huge smile to my face. When we were leaving the Philly airport we had to check our bags, go through security and then wait for over 1.5 hours until it was time for our flight to leave. When we left this morning I was prepared for a long wait through security and not having time to spare but when it only took us 27 minutes to check our bags, get through security and then get to the terminal we were leaving from it left a nice amount of time for us just to sit and talk.
We then had our 2 hour flight from Philly to St. Louis which had a 2 hour lay over (including a few trips through security when we went inside and out to get some fresh air), then a 1.5 hour flight to Florida which in that time we had plenty of time to talk and just have fun.
Our flight home gave us more time to sit and talk about what we did on the trip and what she learned and showed me that while she will always be my little girl she is growing up and she is growing into an awesome person!
After a few times of security checks she was a pro, ready and set to get it done. On the plane ride there she was all about learning information about the real world, since we switched time zones she was very interested in that. Which lead to us having a long talk about how different places in the world have different times then we do.
The way home was filled with talking about everything we had done and how she wants us all to go back as a family because she wants to show her brother and sister everything that she got to see while we were there.
The joy in her smile when she was telling me how much fun she had was priceless and the time we got to spend just us talking and having fun was such a joy to me. I am so thankful to have had this time with her, learning about her likes and the things I don’t normally get to see in our everyday life of craziness.
Now its time for me to make sure that I have more moments like this with her and my other children, weather at home or on a trip. This reminded me of exactly why I wanted to have kids, to watch them grow, teach them, love them and have a wonderful relationship with them.
At night talking about our day while snuggling was amazing, I loved it! I loved hearing about what she liked and what she was excited about. I loved hearing her talk about what we had done that day. We had many great moments like walking on the beach, eating cookies before bed, sitting out side enjoying the sea breeze talking and so much more!
If you have kids I highly suggest taking time, one on one time with your kids and just talk to them. You will learn so much that you didn’t know, you will feel the love that they have and getting to know them as a person then just “your child”. Take a walk to the park, a ride to the store anything at all just to have that time to talk to them.
