*Please note, I believe in having a Dress code with limitations on how much skin is being seen or profanity on shirts ect but the dress code of a uniform is my complaint 🙂
Uniform Style Dress clothes have no place in public Schools!
Word just came out that next year my kids school is going to a different dress code, and while they are not bluntly saying it the guidelines in place are of a uniform style.
The dress code calls for no jeans, but students can wear chinos and dress pants, along with collared shirts.
They also can wear school club shirts, military shirts and college shirts.
I am so annoyed it is not even funny, while they left out what girls are going to be allowed to wear they say no jeans so that means that girls are left with 3 options, dresses, skirts and leggings as that is all that there is for girls to wear in the lines of clothing.
I get that kids make fun of kids for having brand names or non brand name clothing and that it is an issue but that issue won’t go away just because a uniform style dress code is in place. There will be kids who are wearing name brand shoes, and then kids who are wearing shoes from Payless or Walmart. Kids are not stupid they will see that and you still have not solved the issue of bullying because of name brand clothing. You will have kids wearing the name brands of the uniform style clothing and those wearing it from Walmart and again kids are not stupid, they will still notice.
Then lets add in the girls who hate dresses and skirts, now they are no longer allowed to wear jeans or leggings, if they are wearing leggings it can only be under a skirt.
In this area the income brackets are drastic and going to the thrift stores or yardsales to buy clothing is common and shopping sales like I do is largely done. I buy my kids clothing a year in advance, the clothes for the kids for the next year are bought at the cheapest I can get them at the end of the season and then I box them up for when I need them. Now that is not going to be possible. People are now going to have to only buy the clothing that is ok with the dress code which will cost more then finding it on sale. Having to buy full priced school uniform attire is going to be hard on many people’s budgets and then you need clothes for your kids for the weekends and lets not forget that kids + Dress pants is a bad idea because they ruin them and then you have to replace them. They are not strong enough to stand up to the wear and tear of young kids playing. Forcing kids to wear dress clothing as a uniform is ridiculous, its going to cost more to start with then shopping sales, and then when the kids ruin them faster because of the material they are made of parents will have to put out more money!!
Seriously if I wanted to have my kids wear a uniform I would send them to private school. I really wish people who are running the school board would remember back to when they had kids and the cost of raising kids to begin with before thinking that a dress code that involves kids wearing dress pants and clothing that is made to be worn for dressy situations is not a smart move, it is why as a parent you send your kids outside to play in play clothes, and to school in school clothes and not their dress pants, they won’t last through a day!
Does your school have a uniform dress code? How do you feel about uniform dress codes in public school?
