  • 2 cups of graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 stick of butter melted
  • For the Pie:
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk made into a Dulce de Leche sauce instructions below
  • 3-4 medium bananas sliced and divided
  • lemon juice to sprinkle on bananas to keep them from browning
  • Cool whip or whipped cream
  • 1/2 oz of semi sweet chocolate to garnish

Instructions

  • Crust:
  • Preheat over to 375 F
  • Combine graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar and melted better until thoroughly mixed
  • press into a 9″ pie plate (*tip: use a measuring cup to push the graham crackers up the side of the pie plate and to flatten bottom. Makes a perfect pie crust every time)
  • place in oven and bake 8-10 minutes
  • Remove and let cool completely before using.
  • Pie filling:
  • Slice bananas on a diagonal and sprinkle with lemon juice to avoid browning. Place half of the bananas on the cooled crust
  • Pour prepared Dulce de Leche sauce on top of the bananas (recipe below)
  • Place the remaining bananas on top of the sauce.
  • Cover with whipped cream or cool whip
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings. (*tip: take a block of good semi sweet chocolate and using a vegetable peeler shave chocolate over the top of the pie )
  • Once done make sure you cool in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight so its ready the next day.
  • You can do this one of two ways.
  • How to make Dulce de Leche Sauce:
  • The first way and they way I did it is to poke 2 small holes with a can opener in the top of a can of sweetened condensed milk (DO NOT TAKE THE TOP OFF) and place in a sauce pan that is taller than the can of milk. Fill the pan with hot water 3/4 of the way up the can. Avoid letting water run over the top of the can.
  • Let come to a slow boil and boil for 3-4 hours (the longer you boil the darker and thicker it will be)
  • Make sure you keep water in the pan as it will evaporate.
  • Once done take the can out of water and take the top off. Be careful, it is going to be very hot so handle with care.
  • Pour into a bowl and whisk until smooth. (the milk will most likely be clumpy and darker towards the bottom but once whisked it will be beautiful)
  • Let cool completely before using.
  • The second way to do it and it is much shorter but more involving.
  • Preheat over to 425 F
  • Open the can of sweetened condensed milk and pour into a pie plate or a loaf pan. Place that pan in a larger pan. Pour HOT water up the side of the pan to where the milk line will be in the smaller pan.
  • Place in the over and bake for 1 1/2 hours. Every 20 minutes go in and stir the milk.
  • Remove from oven once browned and cool completely before using.
