Bird Seed Ornaments

Bird seed ornaments are a fun activity to do with the kids and they also make great gifts! You can put them up in your yard to feed the birds or give them as gifts so your friends and family can watch the birds in their own yards.

Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie cutters 1 in or taller
  • 3 cups birdseed
  • 1/8 cup flour
  • 2 envelope unflavored gelatin
  • 3 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 straws
  • Twine

Instructions

  • Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and spray it with nonstick spray.
  • Arrange your cookie cutters on the sheet pan.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, water, corn syrup, and gelatin to form a smooth paste.
  • Stir in the birdseed and mix until fully coated.
  • Spoon the mixture into the cookie cutters.
  • Cut straws into 3-inch segments and press the straw into the top one-fourth of the bird seed-filled cookie cutter. Make sure the hole goes all the way through the mixture.

  • Tie a piece of twine to hang your ornaments.
  • Hang your ornaments from a tree for our birds to enjoy.
