With this whole buying a house process I have been on Pinterst looking for ideas on how to decorate the house and especially the kids bedrooms. When I came across the idea of making my own Chalk Paint and was super excited because when I compared the prices it was much cheaper to make my own. You can save a lot of money by getting the mess up paints at stores like Home Depot or Lowe’s, just ask the paint department people where they have the mistints. It might take a few tries to find the colors you want but instead of paying $20-$30 a gallon you will pay about $5! You can also snag the samples that are 8oz of paint for just $3-$4 which is what I did for the project I did this week of this chalkboard, mirror and a shelf for McKenzie’s new room. Look for a post coming this week on the steps for how to use your homemade chalk paint and paint a mirror 🙂

How to make DIY Chalk paint
I used the full 8 ounces of paint because it was the sample container and I just poured the whole thing into the plastic bucket. Then i used about 4 ounces of plaster of paris, make it about 1/2 of the amount of what you use paint wise. Then I used about 4 ounces or so of water, if it is still thick when you mix everything together add a little bit of water at a time to get it the consistency that you want.
Once you have made the chalk paint you are ready to get painting and refinishing everything in your house!
