What is Korean Beef?
Korean beef is a thin sliced beef that is marinated and then cooked and served over rice sometimes with veggies.
That process takes a while and I don’t have that amount of time on a busy night to make Korean beef bowls the traditional way. As much as I wish I did, I don’t so I had to come up with a solution to have a quick easy meal with the asian comfort food flavor I love.
Bring on these easy to make Korean Ground Beef and Rice bowls!
Instead of marinating sliced beef, we use ground beef and cook it in the sauce that has the same seasonings a marinade would have. Then we end up with the same amazing flavor but a much shorter cook time.
What Is the Best Rice for Korean Rice Bowls?
We use brown rice for them but you can use white rice or jasmine rice if you want to and that is what you have on hand.
What Veggies do you serve with Korean Beef Rice Bowls?
To make it a fully rounded meal you can add veggies to your ground beef Korean bowls if you want to. I like to toss a bag of snow peas in the microwave when I am cooking the ground beef and then add it to the top of the bowl.
If you are wanting to add veggies to the ground beef mixture while it is cooking you can do that too. When I do that I use zucchini, carrots, broccoli, and bell peppers. You can leave them as chunks or as I like to do, shred them and mix them in with the ground beef.
If you are adding veggies and they are high water content veggies, I suggest cooking them ahead of time in a microwave steamer before adding them to the pan. The water they release when cooked will thin out the sauce.
I always top our Korean Beef bowls with green onions when I am plating the meal. When you are cutting the green onions use a pair of kitchen shears, it makes it a lot easier to cut than using a knife.
Can I use Chicken with this Recipe?
Yes you can. If you have ground chicken you can change that out for the ground beef and it will be a tasty dish too!
