What main dishes pair well with Mango Salsa?
While most of the time we enjoy this mango salsa recipe on its own with tortilla chips it is also a great salsa recipe to use with main dishes.
Mango salsa is a vibrant and versatile topping that adds a burst of tropical flavor to a wide variety of main dishes. Its sweet and tangy notes pair exceptionally well with grilled or spicy foods, making it the perfect complement to seafood like mahi-mahi, salmon, shrimp, blackened tuna, shrimp tacos or seared scallops.
It also brightens up poultry dishes—try it over grilled chicken, turkey cutlets, or even in chicken tacos.
For a savory twist, mango salsa works beautifully with pork tenderloin, pork chops, or a juicy grilled steak, especially in taco or fajita form.
If you’re leaning toward a tropical or Tex-Mex vibe, add it to burrito bowls, quesadillas, or jerk chicken for a fresh finish.
Even vegetarian options like black bean bowls, stuffed sweet potatoes, or grilled portobello mushrooms come to life with a spoonful of mango salsa on top.
Variations of this Recipe
You can easily change things up with this recipe to make it perfect for your flavor preferences.
- Add avocado. If you are a fan of avocados, add one avocado chopped into small pieces.
- Add tomatoes. I don’t always add tomatoes, sometimes I do, and if you are a tomato fan, chop one up and add it into the salsa.
- Add beans. If you are a fan of beans, adding 1/2 a cup of black beans is a great addition to this recipe.
- Add pineapple. Dice fresh or canned pineapple to add some tropical flavors to this fresh mango salsa recipe.
- Bell pepper. You can use any color bell pepper, green bell pepper, red bell pepper or orange bell pepper. I just like to use red bell pepper when making this recipe because I like the way it looks with the other ingredients.
- You can use lemon juice instead of lime juice when making this easy mango salsa recipe.
Tips for Making Mango Salsa Recipe
There are a few things that you can do when making this recipe that will make your life easier.
- Use ripe and fresh mangos and vegetables. For the best flavor, you want to use fresh and ripe produce.
- Use a cutting board or a cutting mat when you are chopping and dicing your vegetables and fruit.
- Use a sharp knife when you are cutting and dicing fruit and vegetables.
- After mixing, let the salsa sit in the fridge for at least 15–30 minutes. This helps the flavors meld together.
- Add finely chopped jalapeño, serrano, or red chili for a spicy kick. Start small and taste as you go.
- Cut your mango in bigger chunks then the rest of the ingredients. Cut the red onion, bell pepper, and any other ingredients into small, uniform pieces. This helps with texture and ensures you get a bit of everything in each bite.
Can I use store-bought lime juice instead of juicing a lime, and if so, about how much should I use?
Of course! There is about 1 to 2 tablespoons of lime juice in a single lime, though the exact amount will vary depending on size.
How much Salsa does this recipe make?
This recipe makes about 3 cups, but it will vary depending on the size of your produce.
Can I use frozen mangoes instead of fresh?
Yes, just be sure to thaw and drain excess liquid before adding to the salsa.
How small should the mango be diced?
The smaller the better! With that being said, it shouldn’t be diced too small, no smaller than ¼-½ and inch.
How to Store Mango Salsa
If you have any leftover mango salsa, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2-4 days. After that the texture may change and it won’t taste as fresh.
