What are air fryer donuts?
This recipe is a simple donut recipe that uses premade biscuit dough, like the kind that you find in the refrigerator section, to make semi homemade donuts. Using the air fryer, these donuts are healthier than fried, with a crispy exterior and a fluffy inside. The outside is coated in a cinnamon sugar mixture to create standout donuts that are way better than anything you will buy at the coffee shop.
How to Store Air Fryer Donuts
I enjoy these air fryer biscuit donuts best when they are warm. However, they are just as good the next day. Once the donuts have cooled completely, store the donuts in an airtight container, freezer bag or wrapped well with plastic wrap. The donuts can be stored at room temperature and should last for 2 to 3 days.
How Long To Cook Doughnuts In An Air Fryer
Each batch takes 4 minutes to bake. The donut holes take about 3 minutes.
Can I make air fryer donut holes?
Absolutely. I never waster any part of the dough. I make the donut holes using the center of each donut. At the end, I place all of the donut holes in the air fryer and bake for 3 minutes. Dip the doughnut holes
in the butter and then in the cinnamon sugar.
Tips for making this recipe
This recipe is pretty simple. However, there are a few tips and tricks to make it easier and make sure best air fryer donuts come out perfect every single time.
Don’t underbake them. Under baked donuts are not yummy. When they are undercooked the donuts are heavy and gummy.
Do not crowd the donuts. If you put too many donuts in the air fryer pan, they do not get enough air around the donuts and it won’t fry properly.
Grease everything well. You want to make sure the donuts do not stick. Spray the pan well with coconut oil spray or you can use olive oil spray.
Eat them warm. Yes, you can store these donuts and they taste great. But you have to eat at least some of them warm. Right from the oven is the best way to enjoy any type of donut.
Use a doughnut pan. I am not using a pan. I am not concerned if the shapes are not perfect. If you are concerned about the shape, you can use a donut pan.
Air Fryers differ. It is important to remember that the times are a range. That is because just like every oven, every air fryer is different. One air fryer might take more time than another.
Variations of this recipe
Change the coating. I love cinnamon and sugar but you can also coat them in powdered sugar.
Top with frosting. If you want to have frosting instead of cinnamon and sugar you can. You can make a chocolate glaze or top them with homemade buttercream frosting.
What is the best Air Fryer?
There are many different air fryers out there, amongst our team of foodies our favorites are the Cuisinart Air Fryer and convection oven combo, Power XL Pro and the Ninja Foodi 9-in-One. If you don’t have either of them you can use the air fryer you have, but if you are looking to get started with cooking food in an air fryer then our suggestion is that you want to get one of those.
